About

I’m Boris — a tech enthusiast and product owner who writes about everyday design and building things on the web.
I think a lot about how complex things get simplified, and what gets lost in the process.
I run my own infrastructure with Home Assistant automating my apartment, a self-hosted mail server with filtering because why not own your own data. At some point this stopped being hobby projects and became the way I think.
I’m drawn to systems that have real stakes. Not toy problems. Things that break in interesting ways.
This blog is where I write about what I’m building, what I’m learning, and occasionally what broke and why.
Work
I studied computer science and graduated with a master’s degree. I wrote my master’s thesis on ethical questions in ML/AI shortly before ChatGPT was unveiled to the world.
I currently work on yooya, a private photo and video community designed for family, friends, and events. My previous projects include Nyma, a privacy-focused service that generates per-company email addresses to mitigate data breach exposure, and Orbital Explorer, a tribute to STSORBIT PLUS created by the late David H. Ransom, Jr. Additionally, I’m currently exploring WebSockets and MQTT-based services.
